Perform assigned responsibilities, collaborate with team members, and adhere to company policies. Strong communication, problem-solving, and work ethic required. Adaptability, initiative, and willingness to learn are valued.
Job Summary
We are seeking a Lighting & Control Systems Programmer / Designer to join our system integration team. The successful candidate will be responsible for the design, simulation, programming, and commissioning of lighting, DMX, and integrated control systems, ensuring solutions are technically robust, well-documented, on budget, and delivered to the highest standards.
This role spans design development, system simulations, control logic, DMX architectures, and on-site commissioning, working closely with sales, project management, engineering, and installation teams.
Responsibilities
Design & Engineering
- Review project requirements and develop lighting, DMX, and control system designs aligned with client objectives and budget constraints.
- Produce system schematics, riser diagrams, network topologies, DMX universes, patch sheets, and control flow diagrams.
- Create lighting simulations and visualizations (where applicable) to validate performance and support client approvals.
- Develop full bills of materials (BOMs), including accessories, infrastructure, programming effort, and estimated man-hours.
- Ensure designs comply with industry standards, best practices, and project specifications.
Sales & Pre-Sales Support
- Prepare technical design presentations to support the sales team.
- Attend sales and client meetings to provide technical guidance, feasibility input, and value engineering.
- Assist in defining system scope, integration strategy, and technical risks during proposal stages.
Programming & Integration
- Develop, program, and test lighting control systems, DMX-based systems, and integrated control platforms.
- Implement control system software integrating lighting, AV, show control, building systems, and third-party platforms.
- Configure and commission DMX, Art-Net, sACN, networked lighting, and control processors.
- Integrate systems with audio, video, architectural lighting, show control, and automation platforms where required.
Testing, Commissioning & Site Work
- Conduct factory and on-site testing, commissioning, and fine-tuning of lighting and control systems.
- Troubleshoot and resolve DMX, networking, control logic, and system integration issues.
- Attend site visits for programming, validation, handover, and client training.
- Support final system optimization and performance validation.
Documentation & Support
- Maintain and update technical documentation, schematics, patch lists, control logic descriptions, and as-built drawings.
- Ensure project data and revisions are accurately reflected in internal systems.
- Provide technical support to internal teams and clients during and after handover.
- Stay up to date with emerging lighting, control, and integration technologies.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Control Systems, Computer Science, or a related technical field (or equivalent experience).
- Proven experience in lighting control, DMX programming, and system integration.
- Strong knowledge of DMX512, Art-Net, sACN, and networked lighting architectures.
- Experience with control systems platforms (e.g., Crestron, AMX, or open architecture control environments).
- Familiarity with lighting consoles, architectural lighting systems, and show control workflows.
- Solid understanding of networking fundamentals (IP addressing, VLANs, switches).
- Ability to read, produce, and review schematics, wiring diagrams, and control drawings.
- Basic to intermediate CAD skills (AutoCAD, Vectorworks, or similar).
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to work independently and within multidisciplinary teams.
- Willingness to travel for site visits and commissioning activities.
